Dear Gr 6 parent/guardian,
As 2018 speeds to its end and there only a few days left at the primary school, we as a management team of the high school would like to take this opportunity to welcome you as a parent and leaner in the secondary school.
At TKLA Secondary School we offer a unique and robust learning community with the rich academic and co-curricular opportunities of a comprehensive high school intertwined with the personal connections and community support of our Small Learning Communities. Our expert staff at TKLA works tirelessly to build and sustain our school community that promotes personal connections, inquiry, agile minds, and determination. This is achieved through innovative instructional practices and programming that is student-centred, project based, relevant to student experiences, and applicable in the real world setting.
As new parents of the secondary school, I would like to bring the following to your attention:
- Gr 7 Camp
There will be a Gr 7-day camp on Wednesday 16 January 2019 at Wag’n Bietjie camp site only 20 km on the way to Pretoria. The purpose of this camp is to introduce all learners to the RCL (prefects) and the Gr 7 educators, explain the Code of Conduct to them and through various activities having fan and to build them into a real team. As it is an official school day, attendance is compulsory for all. The cost for this camp is included in your school fees for 2019. The only extra cost is that of transport which will be not more than R 100.00. More information will follow early in the first term of 2019.
- School uniform
The high school uniform will be changing from 2019. All learners must wear blue shirts instead of the yellow ones that the primary school is wearing. All yellow socks also change to blue. If wearing a long sleeve shirt, it is compulsory to wear a school tie. Only the official school Drimac with the school logo on the left will be accepted. School blazers will also be compulsory from 2019. Since the school uniform is very expensive, I encourage you to buy the correct school uniform from the supplier (Boundary Silk Bazaar)
- Code of Conduct
Hereby included is an abstract form the official Code of Conduct for the High School. Please read through it and in the case of more clarity on any item, please make an appointment with the principal. The complete document is also available on request. Your child’s safety is our priority. Therefore, there will be an official induction program for all new learners under the leadership of the Grade Head, guardians of the RCL and the head- boy and head girl. No bully of any kind will be tolerated and I would encourage you to report any such cases or any other problem to me as soon as it happened.
- Parents meeting
There will be an official parents meeting for all Gr 7 and all new parents on Saturday 12 January 2019 at 09.00 in the school hall. Please diarise this event and your attendance will be highly appreciated.
The management and staff of Tersia King Secondary School are looking forward to meet you in January 2019. Have a blessed Christmas season, drive safely and in the words of Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn who said the following:
“It‘s not the level of prosperity that makes for happiness but the kinship of heart and the way we look at the world. Both attitudes are within our power so that man is happy so long as he chooses to be happy, and no one can stop him!”
Yours in education
Mr. D.J. Venter (Principal)
